Every human being on the planet has a shadow aspect that they keep hidden from the world and themselves a large majority of the time. The Shadow is where negative qualities and characteristics are stored and locked away from humanity at large. These potentially ghastly aberrations of our psyche can fester and rot underneath our conscious mind, possibly lashing out as uncontrollable emotions and actions in our waking world. These undealt-with shadows can cause irritation, anger, depression and other negative uncontrolled emotions. Many people will deny that they even have a shadow side, blaming the toxic outbursts on conditional situations and other people.
The Shadow must first be recognized and accepted by all of us. We each must acknowledge that the beast exists not only within ourselves, but all other people who we may encounter or share a part in our life. Shadow expression is paramount in the journey to a free and healthy psyche. Each of us must find what it takes to express our shadow in a healthy and non-destructive format. This could be through dreamwork, writing, dancing, art, or even music. These are only a few examples, but there are infinite ways that one can release the Shadow.
Music has always been my preferred choice when it comes to expressing my shadow side as it allows me to transfer high energy and dense emotional material from within my self to the external medium of sound. This is achievable through the instrumental content and lyrical value that I place in my written pieces of music. Metal music specifically has given me the atmosphere to express the Shadow on a platform that works as a catalyst for truthful yet negative points of view that occur from within.
Most people think they want the truth, yet don’t realize that truth itself harbors no feelings of guilt when it comes to the sharp edge of information. Our reality has long been subverted by those who only seek to grow their personal and dynastic power over the whole of humanity. The concept that the earth could be a more prosperous place for everyone if not shackled by centuries of inherited wealth creates a deep sense of anger within those like me. My music allows me to weaponize my shadow against the true evil of this world.
